TVO TeachOntario is honoured to present this livestream webinar: Dr. Chris Suurtamm: Supporting students engaged in Ontario’s new elementary math curriculum  

 

This session focuses on particular aspects of the new Ontario elementary math curriculum that are most relevant for Grades 6 – 9 and will also inform teachers of grades before and after these years.  It goes beyond presenting new content to also discuss approaches to these topics in ways that support student learning. Dr. Suurtamm will provide practical examples, tips, and resources that can be used both in classrooms and in working with students on an individual basis. Participants will also have an opportunity to ask questions.

About Dr. Chris Suurtamm

 

Christine Suurtamm is Professor of Mathematics Education. She teaches in the areas of mathematics education, assessment and qualitative research. Her research focuses on the complexity of teachers' classroom practice.  Dr. Suurtamm has been the lead researcher on several Ontario Ministry of Education projects to examine mathematics teaching and learning. She is also Director of the Pi Lab, a research facility supported by the Canada Foundation for Innovation. She was the Canadian representative on the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Board of Directors, the Co-Chair of the Ontario Ministry of Education Early Math Expert Panel, and is currently on the Ontario Ministry of Education Curriculum Council. She has been the recipient of several research and teaching awards.
