TVO TeachOntario is an award-winning online community to support sharing, collaboration and knowledge exchange amongst educators across Ontario.

TeachOntario was created by TVO, in partnership with the Ontario Teachers’ Federation (OTF), its Affiliates and the Ministry of Education (EDU), and in consultation with teachers from a variety of districts across the province.

A unique destination for teachers created “For Ontario’s Educators, By Ontario’s Educators," TeachOntario's purpose is to serve and celebrate Ontario educators for the broader benefit of Ontario’s students.

TeachOntario offers the unique opportunity to:

  • Support teacher professional learning
  • Foster teacher leadership
  • Facilitate the sharing of exemplary practices with others

Ontario educators with a Board of Education email address can register and log in to follow other educators, create blogs, discussions, documents, upload pictures, videos and files, and start groups based on subject matter, grade or interest.

History

In the summer of 2014, TeachOntario started as a prototype with 20 elementary and secondary teachers who were part of the Teaching Learning and Leadership Program (TLLP).  Over the 2014-2015 school year, our online community expanded through word of mouth. Educators started sharing content and ideas in groups, and TVO made changes to the platform as per your feedback. As the prototype grew, activities and features on TeachOntario expanded to include TeachOntario Talks, book clubs and other professional learning opportunities.

In February 2016, TeachOntario was awarded the platinum 2015 IPAC/Deloitte Public Sector Leadership Award for outstanding leadership in public policy and management. From Windsor to Moosonee, Red Rock to Ottawa, and all points in between, TVO embraced the opportunity to connect and learn alongside educators across the province in this shared achievement. TeachOntario thrives on the courageous leadership fostered by educators exploring, sharing exemplary teaching and learning practices, and co-constructing innovative projects that educators contribute to daily. The first of its kind, this innovative approach to professional learning is central to TeachOntario's growth and evolution.

On March 31, 2016, TeachOntario launched at St. Mary Catholic Elementary School in the Halton CDSB. Present at the launch were Hon. Liz Sandals, Minister of Education, OTF President Francine LeBlanc-Lebel, and executive staff from TVO and the HCDSB. Presentations and a tour of TeachOntario was led by your colleagues Maureen Asselin and Daniel Rolo, and their students.

In February 2017, TeachOntario received the 2016 Ontario School Library Association OSLA Award for Special Achievement. Presented at the Ontario Library Association (OLA) Super Conference, the OSLA Award recognizes individuals or organizations that have provided significant support to teacher-librarians, and school library information centre development, in Ontario.
